Duplication of the Posterior Cerebral Artery and the 'True Fetal' Variant.
We present a rare case of bilateral posterior cerebral artery variant anatomy seen in a patient presenting with acute ischemic stroke. An embryological explanation of the variant configuration is discussed along with demonstrative radiologic images and a display of the vascular territory supplied.
متن کاملCarotid Endarterectomy in a Patient with Posterior Cerebral Artery Infarction: Influence of Fetal Type PCA on Atypical Clinical Course
Fetal type PCA may positively affect clinical outcome in patients with ischemic stroke such as protection of a reserve blood flow capacity as well as negative effect on clinical outcome such as certain atypical pathological manifestations. We presented a patient with a posterior cerebral artery territory infarction due to an unexpected etiology as stenosis of internal carotid artery (ICA) with ...
متن کاملInfluence of Vascular Variant of the Posterior Cerebral Artery (PCA) on Cerebral Blood Flow, Vascular Response to CO2 and Static Functional Connectivity
INTRODUCTION The fetal origin of the posterior cerebral artery (fPCA) is a frequent vascular variant in 11-29% of the population. For the fPCA, blood flow in the PCA originates from the anterior instead of the posterior circulation. We tested whether this blood supply variant impacts the cerebral blood flow assessed by arterial spin labeling (ASL), cerebrovascular reserve as well as resting-sta...
متن کاملSegmental duplication of the fetal anterior cerebral artery.
Segmental duplications (also termed 'fenestrations') of the fetal anterior cerebral artery are a relatively rare anomaly. Their occurrence was studied in 200 fetuses at 20-40 wk gestational age. Duplications were found in 21 of the 200 fetuses, i.e. 10.5%. In 2 fetuses, i.e. 1%, the duplications were bilateral. In 1 case, i.e. 0.5%, 2 duplications were found on the left anterior cerebral artery...
متن کاملCircle of Willis Variants: Fetal PCA
We sought to determine the prevalence of fetal posterior cerebral artery (fPCA) and if fPCA was associated with specific stroke etiology and vessel territory affected. This paper is a retrospective review of prospectively identified patients with acute ischemic stroke from July 2008 to December 2010. We defined complete fPCA as absence of a P1 segment linking the basilar with the PCA and partia...
